Is profound faith in religious deities due to a genetic mutation?

My friend told me that in his biology cl they watched a movie, in which they stated that when someone has a profound amount of faith, it is due to a genetic mutation. The mutation was said to cause gullibility and susceptibility to far reaching ideas, such as various forms of religion. Does this have any validity?
