Is complexity sustainable?
Okay, so it's a philosophical question that relates to the effect of entropy on any complex system. Just one practical example: is it better to commit resources to transoceanic steamboat travel, which is relatively simple, fuel efficient, effective but slow, or to highly complex airliner systems which are much more expensive but faster? Another example: Humans are incredibly complex and prone to "breakdowns" like disease and disability, have complex environmental requirements (shelter, warmth) and require refined food. Is it better for nature to spend more time and energy on simpler creatures that are less ephemeral and more adaptable like crocodiles or sharks.
